I shot this small ground hog shot with a with my Savage 93RBTVS topped Nikon buckmasters 6-18×40 w/ nikoplex with 17hmr cci 20gr gamepoint at about 130 yards. Video taken through Pentax PF-80ED-A spotting scope with a cheapo camera. I program on upgrading me camera next. I had to set up the camera and then shoot, so the video is longer than it requirements to be. Enjoy!!

Depends on where you get it. Probably somewhere between 350 and? 400 for the BTVS model. Be sure to get several brands and bullet types of ammo to test. All the 17s i have shot tend to be very picky.

Yes it was very dead. It died pretty much immediate after? i shot it. The nervous system kicked for a few seconds afterward, the body was dead just last few neutrons firing of making it kick.

I have that? scope in nikoplex but havent got it put on my 7mm yet looking forward to using for deer and elk hunting
Yes, its? very important to see what ammo brand and weight your gun prefers the best. JBM has an excellent ballistic calculator that is free online. I hope you really enjoys yours. They are excellent firearms for the hunter or plinker.
i also have a savage M9317 with a fluted bull barrel and a bushnell 3-9×40 and i love it. knocks down hogs squrriels rabbits and more recently rats. however i prefer the hornady vmax bullets. they have great expansion and not alot of over penatration which is good where i live due to houses. longest shot was 134 yards. hornady has a ballistic calulator that help with shooting? at longer ranges and i found it to be very helpful.

Difficult to say for certain, but… a .17 HMR has more power at 100 yards than a .22 lr at the muzzle. Figuring it was 130 instead of 100, I’d think that with proper shot placement there is more than enough power to get it done right.
Whether or not the bullet goes where it needs to… that is? dependent on both the shooter and the situation.
ya i know what your saying man but shit happens we miss the vitals etc etc all i own is a 22lr for now so i always put more rounds down range like? i said i dont like tree rats and i just feed them to the wild animals and my dogs.
I would never want it to suffer. its unsporting and cruel to let an animal suffer for no reason.? and hunter should always shoot for the cleanest kill possible. Yea sometimes it doesnt happen, but we should always strive for a clean quick kill.

That groundhog suffered for bout ten or? twelve seconds.. next time have more fun..shoot again and finish him off.
This was a small groundhog, and for it I think it was enough. The ground hog was dead the nervous system was just didn’t know it yet. I did shoot another one after this a much bigger one at the same range, and it wasn’t enough for a clean kill. A vmax bullet might have done better. I will not shoot one that far away anymore. So now I am looking into a center fire. If your shoot at ground squirrels with vmax, the energy is there at least to 150 yards. ?
